MAKING A HABIT OF PRAYER
Ephesians 6:18 (NLT) Pray in the Spirit at all times and on every occasion. Stay alert and be persistent in your prayers for all believers everywhere.
Our daily habits determine our future. What we did yesterday determines our today. What we do today will determine our tomorrow. Our habits will either take us to God’s purpose for our lives or to keep us in captivity.
Many people pray only when they find themselves in trouble. It’s ironic that we can be passionate about seeking God when things have gone awry, but find prayer inconvenient and unnecessary as a daily discipline when all is well!
But the Apostle Paul exhorted us to have a daily discipline and holy habit of prayer. In fact, he tells us to pray “at all times and on every occasion.”
The Greek words the Apostle Paul uses here are: en pante kairo.
These words together literally mean: “No matter where you are or what you’re doing use every occasion and season as an opportunity to pray.”
This clearly tells us we are to make prayer a top priority and holy habit. We all have challenges meeting the daily demands of work, family and ministry. Yet, if something is a priority and a passion, we will make sure to make time to do those things we really want to do. Your daily time with God in prayer must become a priority and passion, making all else subservient to it. Ask the Lord to help you establish year a consistent habit of prayer. Your future is waiting!
