Matthew 6:19-21 (MSG) Don’t hoard treasure down here where it gets eaten by moths and corroded by rust or – worse! – stolen by burglars. Stockpile treasure in heaven, where it’s safe from moth and rust and burglars. It’s obvious, isn’t it? The place where your treasure is, is the place you will most want to be, and end up being.
Consider the rich young ruler that approached Jesus in Mark 10 and asked about how to obtain eternal life. Jesus told him…. Mark 10:21-22 Go sell everything you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow Me.
If this guy’s “stuff” hadn’t been so important to him, he could have been the 13th disciple! Just think of what he missed. He could have been with Jesus! But he ended up with just his stuff, which soon rotted, rusted and eroded to nothing. Whenever Jesus called someone to follow Him, He called them to choose Him over their stuff; He called them to rank their possessions as very low in importance and make Him their greatest treasure. What is your greatest treasure?
